Lose Weight Without Dieting

You must be thinking I am insane. I understand why, honestly I do. We are bombarded by so much false nutrition information and a new fad diet every other day that it is really hard to believe that you could eat normally and lose weight!

I have been a long-term believer in this. Fad diets are short-term solutions to long-term problems, they basically don't work.

So what works? How can you lose weight without going through the torture of fad-diets.

1. DON'T GO TOO LONG WITHOUT EATING.

This is a big misconception when it comes to losing weight with people thinking they need to starve themselves and get to the end of the day super hungry (hangry), tired, feeling faint and tired and most of the time end up binge-eating and undoing their hard-work. Aim to have regular meals that have a good combination of carbs, protein and fat to keep your blood sugar stable for longer.

2. EAT COLOURFUL FIBER-RICH FOOD.

High-fiber diets can protect against many diseases like Type II Diabetes and Heart Disease. But even though people know how good fiber is for us many of us don't consume enough. Choose a fiber rich diet including fruits, vegetables, wholegrain and nuts. Eating a colourful fiber rich diet will guarantee you get great nutrients (including phytochemicals) and keep you full for longer.

3. EXERCISE IN A WAY THAT FEELS GOOD.

Exercising is not a form of torture and shouldn't be. Find a way to get active that you enjoy will bring you better long-term benefits health wise and weight wise because you will look forward to exercising and is more sustainable.

4. MAKE ROOM FOR SOCIAL TIME.

What you eat and how you move have a great impact on your health and weight but research actually shows that social connection improves physical health as well as psychological health. Spending time with loved ones has been linked to increased immunity and decreased risk of mortality. nstead of socializing at the bar during happy hour, try meeting a friend for an exercise class at the gym, a bike ride or a hike. Or if you prefer to cook, try making meal prep a family event.
